New
Well I haven't made a post in a very long time, so I'll update on somethings that are going on. This weekend was pretty awesome, I played a shit load of music and I started getting back into drumming. For awhile I had just been playing guitar and had not gotten a chance to practice drums. This was due to the fact that my parents would complain within the first ten minutes of me practicing. So I finally just stopped practicing until they would go out; that way I could beat the shit out the drums as much as I wanted with no complaints, and that sounded pretty good to me. So I'll just say a few things that have been going on recently. So recently my brother and his ex band member Sean Elnstein have made up. I am very happy to see that Brandon and Sean are working together again in a co-songwriting partnership. They do some great harmonies and come up with some incredible songs. I am hoping that they will play some of the old greats such as "Creeps in Blue" and "I'm just a Dreamer," that would be sweet. Brandon had been playing in a band for awhile called Nacosta and due to the members having ideas, the band went through a whole new line-up. Brandon met Ron, a keyboardist from Craigslist, and he started writing songs with him. A few months later Brandon had asked Sean to join the band and currently the three are working on new songs. Now for the part when I come into this entry. Brandon thought it would be cool to start a 60's band with me and Sean. I agreed with this and we starting jamming yesterday. Our music is very, because the 60's were a magnificent time with all different styles and genres floating around. Some of our influences include psychedelic rock, folk, soul, and pop. It's a pretty interesting blend and we have already got two songs down. I am also doing a shoegaze/psychedelic/electronic band with my brother's ex band mate Paul Davis and John Yeo(whom I met off of Craigslist). We jammed this weekend as well, and decided on the kind of direction we want. We are all very influenced by bands such as My Bloody Valentine and Autolux. You can definately hear an influence in our songs haha. I am very excited that I will be seen My Blood Valentine in Santa Monica on October 2nd. That fucking band hasn't toured together in fifteen years, it is going to absolutely amazing. Well I finished my first year at Csun, and I achieved a 3.5 point average which isn't too bad, considering the fact that I am a horrible procrastinator. In the fall at Csun I finally start taking music courses which are for major. The first year at Csun I took all general ed courses, to get them out of the way. This coming year I can pick some of the more interesting course like Art history and Philosophy. Well that's all that is currently going at the moment. I should actually update this thing every few weeks. Maybe I'll do so, goodbye livejournalers. -Shane Current Mood: accomplishedCurrent Music: Medicine- Aruca | | Sunday, February 11th, 2007 | | 3:37 pm |
The Shins are really awesome. I'm glad I got to see them at Amoeba last night. It was worth standing 3 hours in line for a 25 minute performance. They even started late because of monitor problems. But who cares because its The Shins! My band needs to sell tickets for Feburary 17th at the Cobalt. So if anyone is interested let me know. I haven't wrote in this thing for awhile, so why not give it a shot at one in the morning. Last night my band played an interesting show. The show was at the school in the Mpr room. We opened which didn't go too well with me,but after all i didn't mind because I got to watch and enjoy the other bands. The thing that pissed me off was that the drum set I was using keep falling apart on me. The problem was mostly the bass drum pedal. I would say that I actually got to use the bass drum pedal on about 2 songs out of the whole set. Another problem was the floor tom falling over which i had to hold up with me leg and which was the same leg to play the bass drum created a problem. Anyways we played our songs fine and people seem to have enjoyed the music. I was surprised to see so many people at the show last night, that was awesome. Our set got cut short about 10 minutes for some strange reason, maybe because the show started late or because la leather wanted to play sooner when the whole crowd was there. After us came The Septembers, and they were pretty good. Their bass player is amazing and he plays in two bands The Septembers and Red Light Affair. The Septemebers sadly only got to play for about 15 minutes. I feel bad that their set was cut in half because thats messed up. After them was Red Light Affair, and they were really awesome. They sounded like a mix between the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Aerosmith, nonetheless very awesome. I was lucky enough to grab a copy of their demo cd. After them was The Charlie T. Trio. They were good from what i heard. I didn't get to hear much of their stuff, because by that time of the night I was extremely hungry. So after begging Travis to go get something to eat, me, Travis, Manuel, Kevin, and Jon departed to Carls Jr. Only me, Travis, and Kevin got something to eat and we all ordered the jalapeno burger because it's so good. So after we ate we headed back to the show. Charlie and his band were still playing when we got back. His new band sounded like a pop blues band kind of Jon Mayer or something, which didn't quite interest me. The thing that interest me is his guitar playing which is always good. After Charlie's group came la leather which were being interesting last night. Robert told them to stop be so pretenious and I guess they took that the wrong way and thought he was talking shit. Or they weren't intelligent enough to know the meaning of pretenious. So anyways the head singer actually took me outside and started bitchin to me about Robert, and I told him I didn't know what was going on. I really didn't care either. He was going nuts almost crying before his "big show" and fame.I told him to calm done and just relax and everything will be fine. Well I knew they were acting as if they were the baddest band out there and that wasn't going well with me and the other bands. When they came on stage the head singer announced lets hear some silence for The Denizens. What a dick you know, so out of the silence you hear Robert saying, "I love you to Taylor." What a nice guy Robert is to say that. He didn't mean to piss them off he just spoke what had to be done because no one else had the balls to say so. So they played their set and I didn't pay much attention to them at all. I was outside most of the time talking to Felix, which is a very interesting guy. He was trying to run up the wall and do a back flip or hold himself up vertical by holding on to the gate. To do that you need a lot of arm strength. Well the show ended and Travis took me and the twins (Kevin and Jon) home. Today I played a couple hours of FF12, which is my new addiction and then I had a cool jam session with my brother, his friend Skylar, my friend Paul, and of course my Dad. I was playing drums, Paul was playing bass, my brother was playing guitar and singing, and Skylar was playing piano and singing. We jammed on some pretty cool rifts. One of the cool songs we played was 10 A.M Automatic, which was a farely easy song for everyone to pick up. After that my brother made up this cool grungy sounded riff which were jammed on for about 10 minutes. He said he liked the riff so much that he was going to use it for a song in his band and maybe I could play the drums =). The jam session lasted about 2 hours until my mom crashed it saying it was too late when it was only like 7:30 , but it was a holiday and everyone was home suppossably. After the jam Skylar was playing this really awesome piano song which I knew I have heard before. It always sounded like a R.E.M> song to me, but was infact a Tears For Fears original titled "Mad World" which is a lot faster than the version Skylar was playing. Skylar was playing the version from Donnie Darko done by Gary Jules. That song is really awesome, and so that after my brother and his friend Skylar left, I went to listen to both versions of Mad World. I actually happen to like Gary Jule's version better, because I think that song is more meaningful played slower than faster. So with that I think I will stop writing for tonight, not because I am tired or anything, but because I have ran out of things to say and I have no experiences to share. SO I will leave now. My Trip
So i got back a few days ago from my two week vacation. There is a lot to talk about. First we went to Lake Tahoe and stayed at The Embassy Suites which is a time share place. It was a really nice hotel, and we got a two bed room suite. My brother and I had our own room which was pretty nice. We decided to do the river rafting thing in North Lake Tahoe down the Trucky River. That was like a three mile path. It was fun but it was a bitch when we got caught on a rock and took forever to continue. My mom was freaking out which was pretty funny, she kept thinking we were going to tip. My nice brother thought it would be funny to push me in the water, so he did when i still had my shirt on, so i couldn't wear it the rest of the day. A couple minutes later i got him back and pushed him in, now we were even. It was pretty funny when we passed a bunch of drunks, shouting out random things. I noticed that people like to screw each other over in the river. We bumped another raft to set them free when they needed help and when we were stuck they passed by without lifting a hand. That sure shows how nice they returned the favor. Well while i was in Lake Tahoe I visited a pawn shop which was selling a shit load of musical equipment. A cymbal caught my eye on the floor. It was a 19 inch Z Custom Zildjian Rock Crash. The first time i was in there the guy was selling for $80. Well when I returned in a few days there was another dude and he said we sell the cymbals for $3 an inch. This was a much better deal only $57 for a $209 cymbal, so i jumped on that. After Lake Tahoe we headed to a little gold town called Senora. That place is pretty boring, and the whole town closes at five. We went gold pawning and found a few gold leaves. After the one night at Senora we went to San Francisco. It was nice there traveling on the BART system and the trolly cars. We went to Haight Ashbury which was okay. Surprisingily I had never heard of it. It was the place where all the hippies hung out in the 60's. When I was passing by I saw that someone wrote in the concrete LSD Forever. Almost every store there sold bongs, and this one place sold salvia. I wanted to buy a music t-shirt and they were all $30. I guess they really need their money for their weed. The Amoeba was pretty nice there, I found the red hot chili peppers third album there Freakly Styley. I also went to another record store in San Francisco called Raspuntins. It was nice but not as good as Amoeba Records. Although i found the first Radiohead cd there for $5. After San Franciso we went to one of our favorite places Pismo Beach. I finally got to try the steak house Jockos, that my grandparents rave about. They were right it is way better than Mc Clintocks. The meat there has the best flavor, and they give you a huge portion. You have to share there, its almost impossible to engulf one of those steaks by yourself. At the Kon Tiki Inn in Pismo I met some pretty interesting people. This one kid who was only 16 produces vinyals and my brother and I talked to him forver, he digged our music. We met this Elvis impersonator who was from Fresno, sorry to say but his impersonation sounded nothing like Elvis. Maybe 25 years ago he might have. I also met this nice girl from Huntington Beach who was on the swim team, volleyball team, and water polo team. She was pretty active, we talked for awhile. So thats it for my vacation, I bought a a new black velvet hat and some red retro vans. Im bored at home now and would like to have band practice, and hang out with some people, so lets do something. peace -Shane Current Mood: anxiousCurrent Music: Jimi Hendrix | | Tuesday, October 18th, 2005 | | 9:22 pm |
